My Other Passion

My look of, "Are we actually allowed to have this?!" on being presented with a copy of The Deathly Hallows Part 2. My other passion, when not writing poetry, is analyzing scripts. The flow of a well-written screenplay is mesmerizing, from language to imagery to minimalist forms of epic story telling. I'm in awe of the way Snape's memories are presented to Harry, the non-linear and eye-opening revelations – and having that montage appear at the point Blake Snyder (author of Save the Cat) would call the all is lost moment in the film, 1 hour and 15 minutes in, right after someone dies. In this case, Harry not having known the truth about Snape is what Blake Snyder would call the dark night of the soul before act 3, which I think is a beautiful rendition of that section of the script, almost an inverse. Redemption and grace are my true passion, so I'm in awe of Snape's character arc – that and playing around with non-linear forms of story telling.
